What to expect

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a well-known concert venue. But it’s so much more than that. Red Rocks itself is a natural wonder, with plenty of hiking trails and beautiful landscapes. Visitors can drop by any time, with gates open during daylight, while public access may be limited on event days as soundchecks and operations get underway.
Due to Colorado’s cold winters, the concert season at Red Rocks takes place between April and November. It’s important to remember that shows here take place at altitude — you’ll be around 6,500 feet above sea level. Locals advise visitors to drink lots of water and stay hydrated, while taking a break and catching your breath when walking around can be wise.

Guests should always come prepared for any conditions — shows take place come rain or shine, with no roof cover and a typically unpredictable climate. As such, you might want to pack sunscreen, a jacket, and a poncho, all for the same show. Extreme weather may mean show cancellations, with venue owners requesting visitors shelter in vehicles.

If you’ll be climbing up to the higher rows from the lower parking lots, you should consider wearing comfortable walking shoes. The hike is worth it, with the higher seats providing a magical view of the surrounding flatlands, Denver, and Rocky Mountains. Sound also travels well within that natural arena, with many opera singers describing Red Rocks’ acoustics as “perfect.”
