ABOUT THE COLORADO SYMPHONY

It has been 36 years since the Colorado Symphony was introduced as a full fledged orchestra group. The non-profit organization was established to succeed the Denver Symphony Orchestra. Since its inception, the orchestra has grown into a full ensemble with 79 full time musicians. In 1993, artistic director Marin Alsop became their first ever principal conductor and music director. The Colorado Symphony has done extensive efforts in promoting music across Denver and beyond. The organization consistently advocates for his educational program, outreach activities, and other activities. The famed Symphony on the Rocks Series is a popular summer concert performance featuring The Colorado Symphony collaborating with pop and rock artists.

“I often saw people with their eyes closed, not worried about capturing the moment and saving it for later. Everyone was fully immersed in the concert. And immersive it was.” – Westword

The celebration featured the astounding music from Grateful Dead’s singer Jerry Garcia as well as his enduring legacy. This show traveled across North America and performed in select major venues but their showdown at the Red Rocks Amphihtheater was simply one of the most memorable nights in the prog rock circuit.

Another showcase featuring the world renowned orchestra happened on July 27 as alternative rock powerhouse Beck conquered the Red Rocks with his wholly reinvented catalog. Delivering a total of nine concerts across eight cities, the show at the Red Rocks was definitely a coveted spectacle. Beck delivered titles like “The Golden Age,” “Lonesome Tears,” “Lost Cause,” and tons more smashing hits. The performance was conducted by acclaimed artistic director Christopher Dragon with supporting performance from Australian indie rock icon Molly Lewis.

August was definitely packed at the Red Rocks and the line up included two spectacular shows featuring the Colordo Symphony. Legendary pop band The Beach Boys serve the highly awaited showcase, the Sounds of Summer Tour. With the full orchestra, the Beach boys serve astounding timeless hits like “Good Vibrations,” “Surfin’ Safari,” “Califorinia Girls” and “Fun Fun Fun.” The night lit up with the most incredible set and fans were raving and singing along from start to finish. It’s the classic Beach Boys experience with a big orchestral sound. What else could anyone ask for?

Lastly, Colorado Symphony’s summer season closed with the epic performances of Danny Elfman’s Music From the Films of Tim Burton. On August 17, fans were treated to the music of Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and tons more.
