A Word from The Avett Brothers 

It's a dream come true. With a huge run of shows wth the one and only Mike Patton, The Avett Brothers take a trip down memory lane. Growing up as part of the MTV generation, they were big fans of the Faith No More singer, and became inspired by his legacy as one of the most essential artists who helped shaped rock music. 

"Mike’s part of our DNA, like the fabric of our youth," Scott shared in a press release. "Literally, we studied him. He’s a dear friend now, but when we were younger, I was imitating him. … This is what art is. This is what making it is supposed to be: in secret and with no ambition." 

Now that the secret's out, it sure is amazing to see how the brothers manifested it all. Greatly inspired by their rockin' idol, the band is living out this dream, going on tour right after they made a great album together. 

About the Project

Pretty much everyone knows how different their music styles are. The Avett Brothers lean towards soulful folk and Americana vibes while Patton lives out true rock energies. Yet they took a brave step to work with their idol. Patton on the other hand, showcased his dynamic ability to simply make it work, and what we have is a contender for album of the year.

"My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin. A brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later," Patton shared in a press release. 

With deep and dark themes, it's a record that speaks to the soul. Nine songs on the list, it's an emotional rollercoaster that hits all the right spots. As you listen to their record, you can feel the brotherly energy of jamming together over real-life issues that hit deep. Taking the same truth in different ways, it simply works. It's AVTT/PTTN in its finest.

"AVT/PTTN is about all the ways we vanish—into depression, into performance, into the roles others need us to play. The collaboration itself mirrors this theme: Patton disappears into the Avetts’ world while they disappear into his," wrote Mark Pelavin of Americana Highways.
