Get ready to turn back time back to Elle Woods' first day in law school. This chic fashionista just got in Harvard, for the sake of love but things take a twist as she navigates this new life. Staying true to who she is, she finds herself tapping her true potential. It's a classic comedy tale from the 2000s that we all love... it's Legally Blonde. This summer, the film is making its way back on the big screen at "Film on The Rocks", an annual summer film screening series brought to you by Denver Film and Denver Arts & Venues.
Set in one of the world's most stunning event venues, the Red Rocks Amphitheater offers the most breathtaking scenery. Surrounded by two giant rocks and spectacular views of greenery, it's where Mother Nature meets live entertainment. From concerts, sports gatherings, to film festivals, the Red Rocks shares a massive history of events that brought together millions of people by now.
Legally Blonde was originally released back in 2001, starring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis, Victor Garber, and Jennifer Coolidge. Following Elle Woods' attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend's heart, she marches up to Harvard, gets a Juris Doctor degree while she slashes up stereotypes against blondes in a comedy-filled movie.
Grossing $142 million worldwide, it was an instant hit, acclaimed by critics, and went on to become one of the most iconic films of the decade. The film has become an inspiration for many. Despite its comedic intent, it actually got a lot of women interested in studying law. "At least once a week, I have a woman come up to me and say, 'I went to law school because of Legally Blonde,'" Witherspoon shared with WSJ in 2017 sharing her thoughts how incredible it's been. "You can be unapologetically feminine but also smart and driven."
Before the movie begins, there will be pre-show performances from Denver-based band Blankslate and comedian Hannah Jones. These Denver natives will be sharing soulful music + relatable humor from Jones where her sharp wit and funny tales will get you up in positive vibes.
