The Alabama Shakes are an American rock band formed in Athens, Alabama in 2009 - so the name checks out if you weren’t in the know.From the moment they came together, it was clear something special was brewing between the vocals from frontman powerhouse Brittany Howard, alongside her crew guitarist Heath Fogg and bassist Zac Cockrell. When they started out, the group began humbly as a Friday-night bar band grinding through the American Southeast and trying to make anything catch fire for their sparks. The slow burn paid off - and with their 2012 debut album Boys & Girls, a record that earned widespread critical acclaim - they earned three Grammy nominations, launched the band into months of touring in front of hundreds of thousands of rock fans across the globe, and the rest was history from there. And now? On tour back here again as we patiently wait for their newest project to come.

Through the years and after their first hit record, they sharpened their sound to new heights with 2015’s Sound & Color - a bold, genre-blurring statement that debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and earned the band three Grammy WINS this time around. Then, just as quickly as they rose, the Alabama Shakes stepped away, entering an eight-year hiatus that only added to their legendary status. Their return to the mic has been electric, from a surprise hometown shows to packed comeback performances (including here at the Rocks last summer!) the band is sounding more refined, more focused, and more powerful than ever, and we’re just here to cement it with these two nights here at the Red Rocks as we begin summer 2026. And yea folks - you’re not gonna want to miss this one, ‘cause their last show DID sell out after all. 

Joining them for the night is JJ Grey & Mofro, bringing their unmistakable blend of Southern rock, swamp funk, blues, and deep-rooted storytelling to the Red Rocks stage. Hailing from Florida, JJ Grey has spent decades building a cult-favorite reputation through relentless touring and songs that feel lived-in, honest, and steeped in Southern spirit. Tracks like Lochloosa, Orange Blossoms, and The Sweetest Thing hit especially hard in an open-air setting : and Red Rocks is the perfect place for their warm, roots rock sound as they make their debut here for the first time.
