The iconic French music duo, led by Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, is hitting the road for a huge 25th anniversary celebration of their debut album "Moon Safari". Playing the album in full, it's gonna be a vibrant night where these timeless classics come to life. Following a series of shows last year, you've probably seen their iconic White Box stage by now. Unique and visually-stunning, it's an interesting concept that's probably gonna make them one of the most unique acts to visit the Red Rocks. This trek marks Air's second recent tour where they'll be playing Moon Safari.
In early April of this year, the duo shared a new record, "Blue Moon Safari". It's a full album remix produced by Vegyn. Beyond the audio-visual explosion that they've shared for the LP's 25th anniversary, this reimagination of timeless masterpieces definitely hit hard. From start to finish, it's a no-skip affair. The Blue Moon Safari is that good!
All for the glory of their retro yet furture-forward album "Moon Safari", Air's celebratory shows are large-scale productions that bring justic to these legendary songs. On tour, they've set up a 21:9 aspect-ratio box where they perform in, all facing the audience. The set up creates a stunning aesthetic wherein various lights set the mood for every song.
These aesthetics go beyond just having something fancy for this milestone... The band actually has a reason behind its affinity for buildings. Before diving into music, Nicolas Godin actually studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Versailles. Plus, it runs in the blood 'cause his father has worked on some big projects as an architect as well.
"Some 25 years after the debut’s original release, animated renderings of Mills’ illustrations – the two band members as sexy boys alongside spaceship quarterdecks, shooting stars and interstellar salons – now dazzle the lightbox walls during Air’s live shows," wrote Wallpaper Magazine in a feature about the tour's iconic White Box stage.
In a review, The Guardian writes on its headline: "a wild, jawdropping, widescreen extravaganza."
"The music is widescreen, too – everything larger and wilder than on record, with vintage synthesisers taking on the work of the studio arrangements and the drummer injecting prog-rock steroids," wrote Dorian Lynskey.
All in honor of the album that started it all, it's a fantastic show that fans of Air shouldn't miss out on. A wild & widescreen serving of electronica, dream pop, chillout, trip hop, space rock, and so much more genres they cover, it's a retro-futuristic feast that'll go down music history.
