Born Joel Thomas Zimmerman, the progressive house & electro house hitmaker DEADMAU5 is one of EDM’s most iconic producers and hitmakers. Receiving seven Grammy nominations and winning four Juno Awards throughout his career, it’s clear that he’s made a great impact not only to listeners, but to fellow DJs and producers in the scene. 

Hailing from Ontario, Canada, the man developed an interest in technology as a kid — reassembling electronics and becoming fascinated with video games, later making chiptune music. As a teenager, he attended raves, sparking his interest in these heart-pounding beats. 

Where did his moniker come from? Well believe it or not, it’s because of an actual dead mouse. There was a time when his computer began to smell, and the lad discovered a dead mouse inside, and his friends referred to him as the “dead mouse guy.” 

In 2006, Zimmerman released his second studio album “Vexillology,” and it was around this era when someone gave him the idea to wear a helmet like the “mau5head.” He wore it for the first time in 2008, and in the same year, he released his next album “Random Album Title” — one that marked his big break. His track “I Remember” has been one of his most popular hits, and Rolling Stone listed it as one of the 200 greatest dance songs of all time. 

Since then, Deadmau5 has been an iconic producer for his unique style that blends progressive house, trance, and techno beats. With a Halloween night booked at the Red Rocks, get ready for his spookiest live sets yet.
