Though the Red Rocks Amphitheater is currently located in modern day Morrison Colorado, the three monoliths that encapsulate the stage have been around for millennia, giving generations of humans shelter, land, and a place to attend the best shows in the world. With hundreds of live acts and experiences every season, we bring that fire! And with the 1960s 2001: A Space Odyssey film added to our collection of 2025 FIlms On The Rocks, you just know it’s going to be one of those once in a lifetime nights here between the Monoliths. No other movie theatre offers the vibes, the views, and the community we bring here at The Rocks, and we can’t wait for you to join in, too!
Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey is a cult classic, and one of the most notable movies from the Director and from art house films of the late 20th century. The film is also in the United States library of congress archives, and saw Kubrick win two academy awards. And though the movie also technically has a lesser known sequel, 1984’s The Year We Made Contact, it is the first iteration of the interstellar films that made the biggest splash on the public.
Set in 2001, Dr. Heywood Floyd travels to an American lunar outpost to do routine work, though astronauts already on board the station fear of the base’s newest secret - a four million old monolith found in a lunar crater. And when studying the monolith, things begin to get WEIRD. Intergalactic space travel, time travel, aliens?! We don’t want to give too much away for all those who haven’t seen the movie yet, but if you haven’t… There's quite literally no better place other then Red Rocks. Trust us, and thank us later.
2001 A Space Odyssey has a dazzling story on screen and behind the scenes as it was being made. Filled with innovation and scarily accurate depictions of our current reality, like we said before - if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you’ll want to have your first viewing right here in between the rocks. Grab your tickets today, right now, and we promise to have all the snacks you want right at the concession. See you soon, space cadets!
